Project Spotlight: Fairport NY Home Gets Facelift from a Brand New Roof

First Inspection When our Damage Assessment Expert Scott spotted this home’s roof, he knew he needed to give the owners a heads up. From the street, he was able to spot signs of heavy water damage. When he knocked on their door, the homeowners weren’t surprised. They had also noticed the signs that their roof was getting old and wanted a quote right away. By the time the team got there, they were already ready to commit to a full replacement of their roof. When Anthony, our Roof Inspector arrived, the warning signs Scott spotted were clearly a cause for concern. With full access to the attic, he was able to spot several dark spots on the decking where the nails from the roof were placed. These dark spots meant that the wood was rotting, and there was no longer a water-tight seal on the roof preventing water intake. In addition to this, there was granular loss from the shingles on the ground of the home, meaning the shingles were at the end of their lifespan. Shingle Removal The first step in the process was to get the aging shingles taken off the home. Throughout the course of this removal, our team placed down protective tarp. They took the time to ensure that none of the shingles being scraped off the roof would fall and hit the siding or windows of the home and cause property damage. With the decking revealed, the team could then take out any layers with rotten would. Based on the inspection, a lot of damage had been expected. The team came adequately prepared with lumber to fully replace the damaged decking to provide a solid foundation. Roof Replacement Next, the team got to work placing down protective underlayment on the newly replaced decking of the home. This involved two layers of underlayment, one being the ice and water shield and the other being our roofguard II. Both were designed to work together to provide adequate waterproofing for the interior of the home. With their waterproof technology, there was now a seal of protection for the home’s interior and attic, preventing future leaks and increasing the longevity of the roof. Next, the team began the installation of the shingles. The customer chose the IKO Dynasty Shingles, which are industry leading, and recommended for homes especially in Rochester NY, where inclement weather and storms can lead to an increased risk of water damage. The customer picked the “Matte Black” color for their shingles, which contrasted nicely with the tan siding of their home. The Final Result When the project was completed, our team took the time to clean up the property of any debris. The team took extra care to ensure no small bits of debris like nails are let around. They utilized a large magnet to comb through the grass and pull out anything that might have fallen on the lawn unnoticed. Once the cleanup was done, our team gave the property a final inspection to ensure everything was up to our Stellar standard. The homeowners received constant updates throughout the process as well, ensuring they were never in the dark when it came to their most important asset, their home. Finally, the customers were able to take a look at the completed roof, and were completely satisfied with the result.
