Roof and Window Inspection
The homeowner initially reached out to Stellar with concerns about their roof and windows. In particular, their roof had several dark spots on it, indicating that there was algae caused by water seeping under the shingles.
When our roofing expert Adam came to do an inspection, he went to the attic to check for damage that could be caused by the older shingles. When he got there, he found that there was missing decking from the last roof installation, putting the entire home interior at risk of water damage if left unaddressed.
After the inspection, Adam met with the homeowners to give them a full report. It was clear that the roof needed to be replaced to prevent further damage. However, due to Rochester’s rougher winter climates, they wanted something that would give them a lot of longevity to protect their home. This is when they began to look into the possibility of installing a standing seam metal roof with Stellar.

The Metal Roof Installation
To begin the project, our team began removing the old shingles down to the decking, allowing our roofing team the ability to see how far deep any water damage went. Once the shingles were removed, the spots without decking were patched up with fresh and sturdy wood. Once the new decking was in place, it was time to put down layers of waterproof underlayment. The first layer was the Rooftop Gaurd, Synthetic Underlayment. This layer is installed directly on the roof deck providing a secondary layer of protection from the elements, including rain, snow, and wind. The next layer was a Roof-Aqua-Gaurd Ice and Water Barrier. This is a self-adhesive, high quality underlayment designed specifically for metal roofing systems. It’s applied along eaves and valleys, protecting vulnerable areas on a roof from ice and water damage.
For the drip edge, Stellar installs a custom drip-edge designed to hold metal roofs in place securely. This protects metal roofs from flapping in wind or strong storms. Then, the metal panels were installed. Made of 26-gauge galvalume steel, this material of metal roofing is designed to withstand the worst weather and protect a home for a lifetime. To protect the homeowners, a snow bar was installed above every door to prevent large chunks of ice from injuring residents.
The Window Replacement
Aside from a few windows on the home, the homeowner wanted the majority of the windows on the house replaced. They chose the Provia Endure Vinyl Windows for their energy efficiency and sturdiness.
To start the process off, our team began removing the old windows. Extra caution was taken to ensure that the framing was not damaged by the removal process. Then, an additional inspection was performed. This was done to make sure that there was no rot or damage on the wood. Any rotting wood would be replaced with fresh sturdy wood.
Once this was completed, brand new windows were installed into the frames. They were screwed into place, and then insulation foam was used to close any gaps. Finally, aluminum flashing was applied to the exterior of the window. The end result was a beautiful, brand new window in every room of the house.
